If at First You Don't Succeed...Try, Try Something Else
See my new red colander? My new red metal colander?
In the world of gardening and canning, not everything is about due diligence. Some things are about recognizing where errors beg complete change. For example:
...when you crack your plastic colander mashing apples through it too exuberantly, and a new colander goes on the shopping list
...when you try a friend's trick for stripping corn off the cob using a bundt pan and a corn stripper, but end up with a floppy ear that flips the pan and gives you a brief, beautiful corn kernel fountain that pools around your feet
...when your recipe for watermelon rind preserves fails, leaving you with a sticky, chewy, sickly sweet mess, more fitting to use as glue or chewing gum than as something to spread on toast
...when the pumpkin seedling you pampered and collared to keep it safe from bugs dies of root rot
...when you try making jelly "the old-fashioned way"
Got any to add? If so, leave the past behind and join me in saying, Vive la change!
